I am a total sucker for outdoor venues and recently I ventured out to Mepkin Abbey in Berkeley County, South Carolina in preparation of an upcoming engagement shoot. End result? The row of oaks and gardens are simply stunning and you really cannot find a bad spot for a picture worthy moment. : )
Positioned on the Cooper River it was originally the estate of several historic families. Its first record of name was a 1681 grant to the sons of Sir John Coleton, one of the Lords Proprietary of South Carolina. The estate passed through several hands and in 1936 publisher Henry R. Luce purchased the plantation and built an extensive garden known as Mepkin Garden. Then in 1949 the Luce’s donated a large part of the property including the garden to the Trappist Order’s Gethsemani Abbey for its use.
The gardens have remained and you can tour have a picnic, small wedding, or a really pretty engagement session. I hope you guys enjoy the photos from my adventures and don’t forget to check back later for the engagement pictures!
